IN THE BEGINNING…
Fruitcake Fables © have been brewing in my brain for a long time. They were not always called that. In fact, they started out as simple Christmas Cards.
In 1989 I started writing an annual holiday rhyme. It started because I had moved to Miami from Philadelphia and was bragging to friends back home about not having to deal with the cold and that I was going to beach on December 25th. And that started a tradition.
Since then, almost every year, I have created a holiday card, usually in rhyme and with original artwork. They started out being a re-cap of events in my life from previous 12 months – this was my twist on the traditional Christmas Letter. But then one year, I had been doing a lot of flying for my job and instead of the poem being a list of things I had done, I fictionalized it about one flights home.
After that, I started just creating new fables and stories all with a theme of the Holidays.
